Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne a lieu le plus souvent au printemps quand la nourriture est abondante (pr\u00e9sence de beaucoup de fleurs) et que la colonie est en vitalit\u00e9 (couvain abondant et forte population dans la ruche).<\/p><p>La colonie se scinde en deux groupes:<\/p><ul><li>un groupe qui va quitter la ruche et partir avec l&rsquo;ancienne reine (c&rsquo;est le groupe qui essaime)<\/li><li>l&rsquo;autre groupe qui reste sur place avec la nouvelle reine qui va na\u00eetre, ce qui permettra de p\u00e9renniser la colonie.<\/li><\/ul><p>Dans les colonies tr\u00e8s populeuses, on peut m\u00eame observer un deuxi\u00e8me voir un troisi\u00e8me essaimage!<\/p><p>Quelques jours avant le grand d\u00e9part, la vieille reine est mise \u00e0 la di\u00e8te pour perdre du poids et pouvoir s&rsquo;envoler; elle est en effet plus lourde que les ouvri\u00e8res car elle est remplie d\u2019\u0153ufs, et ne pourrait donc pas voler sans ce je\u00fbne! Au contraire, les ouvri\u00e8res se gorgent de miel pour avoir l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie n\u00e9cessaire au vol et \u00e0 la construction du nouveau nid (elles vont ingurgiter environ 40% de leur propre poids en miel).<\/p><p>Lorsque le moment tant attendu est arriv\u00e9 (souvent au milieu d&rsquo;une belle journ\u00e9e ensoleill\u00e9e et chaude), une agitation apparait devant la ruche et tr\u00e8s rapidement un flot d&rsquo;abeilles jaillit dans un vrombissement et un tourbillonnement impressionnant.<\/p><p>Puis la magie op\u00e8re&#8230;.On passe d&rsquo;un nuage d\u00e9sorganis\u00e9, \u00e0 quelques m\u00e8tres au dessus de la ruche, \u00e0 un amas qui commence \u00e0 se former sur une branche et qui se fige rapidement en une grappe silencieuse. La reine s&rsquo;est pos\u00e9e et les ouvri\u00e8res s&rsquo;amassent tout autour d&rsquo;elle pour la prot\u00e9ger. Des \u00e9claireuses partent rapidement \u00e0 la recherche d&rsquo;un nouvel habitat.<\/p><p>L&rsquo;essaim peut rester sur place entre quelques heures et plusieurs jours (2-3 jours). Lorsqu&rsquo;un nouvel abri est trouv\u00e9, il d\u00e9colle tr\u00e8s rapidement et s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8ve tr\u00e8s haut dans le ciel pour se diriger vers sa nouvelle maison. Il est alors tr\u00e8s difficile de le suivre! O\u00f9 sont-elles parties?
